Players Newsletter November 2011

Since I last wrote to you we have presented two productions.’ Old actors never die… they simply lose the plot’, and ‘Dark River’.  Both great hits in their different ways. Old actors had the audience aching with laughter while Dark River had them almost in tears. We had good ‘crits’ for both shows and reasonable numbers in the audience, although as usual there was room for lots more.

Les Mis workshop. 20th November.

We are looking forward to a great day! A few people have already paid the full amount, but can everyone else who has booked please note that the balance of the £30 fee needs to be paid in full on arrival – Neil will be there to collect the money. Please arrive at 9.30 for registration and coffee. The workshop starts at 10am sharp. Lunch will be a jacket potato with either ham or tuna. To help with the catering, if you haven’t already done so, please let Dick know asap which you prefer. Finally, don’t forget that you can invite friends or family to come along at 3.45pm to watch us perform what we have learned.

Christmas/ New Year party.

We are busy finalising arrangements for this. We hope to have a buffet / disco as was planned but snowed off last year. Date will be notified as soon as we are able. Keep a look out on our face book page or on our web site:

Cinderella 15th – 18th February.

Carole and team are busy working on this, and casting has just taken place. If you see people muttering in strange voices or walking in a peculiar way don’t call for the men in white coats, they are simply getting into character.

As Carole is directing, Dika has bravely volunteered to be costume co-ordinator. If any of you are able to help with sewing or alterations please let her know.

While talking about costumes, don’t forget with the party season coming up, if you or friends, need a fancy dress outfit, we can supply them at a fraction of the cost of hire shops.

Spring Plays.

Following the enthusiasm in Old Actors, I was asked if we could fit in a play for this year.

I have found two one act plays – ‘A two-berth life’ 2 men, 2 women, set inside a caravan. ‘The luvvies’ 8 characters set around a table during a quiz night. We have discussed doing these as a pasty supper evening, with a few of Dick’s summer show numbers performed during the interval. Dates will be 2nd – 5th May. Please let me know asap if you are available for either play. Rehearsals will begin right after panto and will be one night a week.

Summer Show. 22nd – 25th August.

The Magic of the Musicals produced, directed and dreamed up by our one and only Sparkly Dick. Everything from the Merry Widow to Wicked – with lots in between! NB: Singing will start in March – we need to practice hard to get back to award standard!  As always, we will be short of men – please think who you can invite to come along and have a sparkly, musical summer!

Youth production 2012.

The youth members have asked if they can do Narnia. I am busy reading through the numerous scripts available. More information as it comes. The committee are delighted that the youngsters are involving themselves in every aspect of Players life! We are especially proud of James who has volunteered to become our lighting apprentice.

Christmas cards.

For those of you  new to the group, or with bad memories. Instead of giving out loads of cards to your friends at the Players – you can give one to the whole group and put a donation to the Players funds instead.

Secret Santa. We had one of these a couple of years ago which was quite successful – is there any one who would like to organise for this year?

STOP PRESS!  We may have the opportunity to perform at the Hall for Cornwall next year – but only for 10 minutes! It will be part of a charity concert on  the 18th June.  Please note, though, this will only be open to those who are definitely in the Summer Show – we won’t have time to rehearse something separately.  We will let you know when details are confirmed.

There are lots of dates in this newsletter so please put them in your diaries soon so you don’t miss another action packed year in the life of the Players!
